FILM, A WAY TO GENERATE POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE & ENJOY A SOPHISTICATED ART FORM
There may not be anything in the world more influential than the medium of film and television. Weaving socially responsible information into pure entertainment might be the quickest way to reach the masses to make a positive impact on relevant social issues. T-RIFF strives to create a unique film festival that has the ability to educate, touch hearts, inspire ideas, and connect audiences to the joy deep within their souls.
Watching films can change your consciousness! Independent films often showcase a slice-of-life in the form of real human stories far beyond our own daily realities. This has the ability to connect us to our compassion and dissolve our fear and judgments. Many Indies carry contagious messages of hope and potentiality as seen in the beautiful documentary we screened in 2005, FAVELA RISING. If one man inflicted by the death of his family and friends can rally his community to war against violent oppression, teenage drug armies and corrupt police – ARMED only with his passion to heal, Hip Hop music, and Afro-Brazilian dance; THEN JUST THINK of what we can do to help our own communities, even countries. Films like this shine a light on the many freedoms we each take for granted everyday, reminding us to be grateful and appreciative.
Celebrating our 7th year finds us assessing a multitude of accomplishments that have created a foundation and impacted our growth 500%, alone, in the last year.
- Founded the only International Film Festival in Northern Nevada
- Adopted a television station ~ Lake Tahoe Public TV
- Pioneered the first International Screenwriting Competition (that produces a film during the festival for the prize winner)
- Created a year-round educational program that offers screenwriting and filmmaking classes hosted by Hollywood professionals
- Established a Digital Filmmaking Lab
- Formed a Film Reference Library

We continue to add film related educational classes and ongoing film screenings for your education and enjoyment. This was made possible by your generous financial support, dedicated volunteers, a few grants … and a LOT of magic and hard work.
For 2005, we received the “Most Outstanding Community Service Award,” voted by our community and given by the Incline Village - Crystal Bay Chamber of Commerce.
